My Experience with Sugar Cosmetics Suede Secret Matte Lipcolour 04 Crepe Coral:
Packaging:
The packaging of this product is very much like their Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick range. Just that in this case, it is sleeker. This liquid lipstick comes in a quirky cardboard packaging having the signature Sugar graphics and prints on it. The graphical design looks very attractive and colourful and renders a good value to the packaging. The liquid lipstick comes housed inside this cardboard box. The lipstick comes in a squarely shaped, frosted plastic tube and you can see through the product from outside. This enables quick shade identification and also helps to know how much product is left in the tube.
The tube of the lipstick has a regular screw-on black cap on it that closes properly in place. There are no chances of unwanted leakage of the product. The shade name is mentioned at the base of the tube and also on the outer cardboard box. The applicator of the lipstick comes attached with the black cap. The shape of the applicator is just perfect for liquid lipstick application. It is doe-foot shaped and helps to cover the lips perfectly without any unevenness. Overall, I find the packaging sturdy and quite attractive.
Shade:
The shade ’03 Crepe Coral’ is perfect for summers. It is a bright and poppy coral peachy shade, which is best suited for you if you want to play with summery hues. As it is well known that summers are the time for flaunting such bright orange shades, Crepe Coral is a good option if you want to add another coral lippie to your makeup stash. This shade instantly glams up my face and uplifts my mood. It will particularly suit all fair skin tones. However, it will look good on medium skin tones as well.
Pigmentation and Finish:
This lipstick is intensely pigmented and only 1-2 swipes are needed for a full opaque coverage on the lips. There is no significant shimmer or sheen in this lipstick. The colour payoff is really nice. On my lips, I apply two coats to even out the edges and get an even look.
It hides lip pigmentation smartly. If your lips are heavily pigmented, you might need multiple swipes for fuller coverage. Fragrance wise, it has a mild candy-like fragrance which is never too bothering. The fragrance lingers for sometime after which it gradually fades away.
Texture and Quality:
The texture is smooth and very creamy; the product, when applied, spreads evenly without any tugging or pulling. It has a medium-thick, mousse type of texture and the formulation is superb. The lipstick sets to a complete matte. But the matte finish is not drying, it is velvety matte. If you are tired of those overly drying matte lipsticks for which you have to use a lip balm underneath every time before application, then it’s high time that you give this range a try. Matte plus lip nourishment both come hand in hand with this lipstick.
It takes about 1-2 minutes to dry down completely, so this is not a quick drying lipstick. Avoid touching your lips during this time to prevent transferring. This lipstick is easy to work with and gives a flawless finish upon application. It does not feel patchy or sticky on the lips. Also, the formula is lightweight and feels quite comfortable. I know this lipstick is a bit on the higher end with respect to the price point, but keeping the quality and the finish it delivers, the price is totally worth it.
The formulation is buildable and adjusts well to layering. It does not crumble and does not enhance the fine lines of the lips. This lip colour is smudge-proof and water-proof. Once it dries down completely, it is completely transfer-proof as well. This lipstick does not dry out your lips. Still, if you are looking for that extra nourishment, you can prep and moisturise your lips for a healthier look. But I don’t think this step is mandatory. This lipstick is perfect for those who want a matte effect, but at the same time, need the creaminess on the lips.
Staying Power:
The staying power is not very long; usually, it stays for about 5-6 hours on my lips without food or drinks. The brand claims its staying power to be 12 hours which I think is not true. It can survive normal meals, but with oily meals, the formula breaks down from the centre of the lips and looks faded. In that case, you would need complete reapplication. But this is not an issue for me since you can reapply this lipstick effortlessly.
Staying power wise, I expected its longevity to be more. This has disappointed me a little bit. Coming to the removal process, it is possible to remove this lipstick with a normal water-based remover or wet wipe. The removal process is quite easy, compared to the Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipsticks.
Overall:
I am quite impressed with the quality of this lipstick. I feel that investing in this range was a good decision even though this range has a few loopholes. But I can ignore them and would definitely love to try out some more shades. I am in love with the shade ‘Crepe Coral’ and I love how it amps up the makeup game. I highly recommend this shade if you are more into bright coral and orange shades.
