10 TIPS ON HOW TO THROW A SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR BOYFRIEND
10 Tips On How To Throw a Surprise Birthday Party For Boyfriend
If you’re like so many people and find it hard to keep a secret, planning a surprise birthday for your boyfriend won’t be easy!
But we understand – you love him lots (most of the time!) and you want his birthday to be totally amazing.
And you definitely don’t want him to find out about this awesome party you’ve got planned.
Beauty and Tips love a good party, and we understand how important it is that you throw a fab one for your man. In this article, we take a look at these great tips…
10 Things you need to do to throw a surprise party for your boyfriend
Make a Start as Soon as Possible
The thing with a surprise party is that you have to do a LOT of work. As the old saying goes, surprise party’s don’t grow on trees!
Moreover, your man’s birthday will quickly creep up on you.
Therefore, it’s really important that you make a start on this as soon as you can.
Choose a Theme
A surprise birthday party is going to be a tad underwhelming if you don’t have a theme.
To pick a theme, all you really need to do is think about the things he’s into. For example, if he’s into Star Wars, that could be a theme. If he’s into sports, that could be a theme.
Just make sure that whatever theme you choose, it’s something that a) he likes and b) it’s something you could get creative with.
That said, for now you don’t need to concern yourself with the execution. Just focus on deciding what theme to go with.
Pick a Location
Once you’ve got your theme and you’ve decided that you’re really going to do this, you need to decide where you’re going to host his party.
Sure, you can totally host his surprise birthday party at his or your house, but there are other locations for you to choose from, too.
For example, you might want to rent an upstairs room at a local bar, or you might want to host it at someone else’s house (perhaps they have a pool?).
The main thing to think about are the logistics. Will it be easier to host it at your house? Will he get suspicious if you drive him to your uncle Bill’s (who he’s never met) on his birthday just because he has a hot tub?
The location you choose will also be dictated by the amount of guests you’re inviting, as well as how big your budget is.
Invite People
This can be the hard bit because whoever you invite needs to be sworn to secrecy. If someone blabs about the surprise on social media, the party is all but ruined!
The best thing to do is to avoid sending out physical invites, as these will be easier for him to spot.
Create a private group on, say, Facebook and invite people. Tell everyone that whoever blabs about this will be unfriended! (not really but you get what we mean).
Make Sure He’s Not Made Other Plans!
We all know what guys are like – they’re the experts at ruining their own surprise parties!
If your man thinks you’ve not planned anything for his birthday, he’ll go and arrange something himself.
Now, this is perfectly cool if he arranges to see his mates who are already coming to his surprise birthday. But if he tries to book a night away with you, you’ll have to find a way of telling him that, no matter how sweet that is, you can’t make it. Perhaps you’ve gotta work!
Choose Some Decorations
Oh, yes – no surprise party is complete without decorations!
Finding the right decorations won’t be a simple task, however, so it’s a good idea to ask a friend to help you out.
A good idea is to pick decorations that match your theme, but you also need to make sure that everything is colour coordinated.
Also, decide whether you want to be really outlandish for his surprise party, or whether you’re going to keep things more low key.
Items you can buy as decorations include tassels, streamers, centrepieces, candles and balloons.
When it comes time to put the decorations up, focus on the main area first and then think of other areas you might want to decorate, such as the kitchen or even the bathroom. The more areas you decorate, the bigger his surprise will be!
Pick the Food
Now, this one can be a bit tricky.
Picking the actual food itself won’t be tricky (because who doesn’t like to shop for food!), but storing the food somewhere your boyfriend won’t see it will be difficult. If you live together, you can’t exactly store the food in the fridge!
A good idea in such a scenario is to ask a friend if you can store the food at their place. Otherwise, your boyfriend might unwittingly eat his surprise party food before his birthday!
Pick the Drinks
Now for the fun bit …
ALCOHOL!
Again, you’re probably going to have a lot of fun choosing the drinks (although you might faint when you realise how much you’ve spent), but you’ll need a secret place to store them. Ask a friend and let them have a bottle for free as a gesture of goodwill (and to stop them necking the other drinks!).
Pick the Music
This bit is also fun, although it can also be a bit difficult if you’re not entirely sure what your man likes to hear at parties.
If you know exactly what he likes, excellent. If you don’t, you can ask his friends to find out.
Remember, this is all about him and his music tastes – not yours!
That said, you also need to make sure that the music will be appropriate for all your guests.
Plan Something for that Day
Lastly, it’s always a good idea to arrive at your surprise party with your boyfriend. That way, you know exactly where he is and what he’s up to (just in case he sneaks off to another city!).
So plan something to do in the hour or two leading up to the party – maybe the cinema or a visit to his parents?
