Hey gorgeous gals,
If you follow me on Insta, you would have seen this new addition to my stash. I have used it a couple of times and am ready to share my review with you. The product is from MAC’s newest additions to their Extra Dimension Line – it’s called “Fairly Precious.”
Product Description:
A blush delivering a polished look that reflects light and leaves a smooth second-skin finish. A modern hybrid blush – combining the smoothness of a cream, blendability of a liquid and finish of a powder with long-wearing colour and prismatic reflections. From soft pastels to corals and plums, this blush delivers polished textures that reflect light and leave a smooth second-skin finish.
Key Claims and Benefits:
Long-wearing, 10 hours. Can be used wet or dry. Dermatologist tested. Ophthalmologist tested. Non-acnegenic. For all skin types.
Usage: Apply to face using a brush as desired.
Price:
US $29/INR 2600 for 4 gm.
My Experience with MAC Extra Dimension Blush Fairly Precious:
Packaging: The compact for the blush looks exactly like any other MAC blush. The compact has a transparent cover and comes packaged in a black cardboard exterior box. The shade name is mentioned on the flip side. Irrespective, it is easy to figure the shade in hand though the clear lid.
Shade: The shade has been described by the brand as a “light pinky champagne” color. To me, it is a light, peachy orange shade with a warm finish and a pearly sheen. I don’t see the pink, only peachy orange. The sheen is extremely strong. It isn’t a satin finish or a “lit from within glow,” it is full on metallic sheen. There are no visible shimmer or glitter particles. I will discuss the pigmentation later, but a quick head’s up here – the shade will work as a blush only for someone with fair to light skin tone. For someone with medium to deep skin tone, it would be either a blush topper or a highlighter. On my light to medium skin – it imparts more shine than colour.
Application: As per the brand, the product can be applied dry or wet. I used a dry, fluffy brush to apply this and then really buff it out with the brush.
Texture: The texture is quite refined and almost creamy to touch. It applies easily and blends out smoothly without going patchy or the colour sticking to the first point of application. There is no powdery kick up of product in the pan. Neither does it feel super dense. The shade blended into the skin and melted into it very nicely.
Pigmentation: Pigmentation is a slight issue. I did not find the shade true to pan. Had it been true to pan, it would show up easily on my light to medium skin tone without building up, but that was not the case. I have shared pics where I have used this as blush. I had to go with 3 layers for the colour to be visible. The flip side of it was that this also increased the metallic sheen three times over – which, on my mature, slightly textured skin that also has open pores – was ridiculous! It highlighted the texture and the open pores and accentuated their appearance. On my light to medium skin – it imparts more shine than colour.
Longevity: The product gave excellent wear; I got about 8-9 hours of wear with the shade.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of MAC Extra Dimension Blush Fairly Precious:
- Finely milled, creamy smooth texture.
- Easily blendable.
- Lovely blush shade for someone with fair to light skin tone.
- Would work as a blush topper or highlighter for people with medium to deep skin tone.
- Lasts well on my combination/oily face.
- Efficient and functional packaging.
- Did not break me out.
- There is no chakiness or powdery-ness.
- Easy to travel with.
Cons of MAC Extra Dimension Blush Fairly Precious:
- More shine than colour.
- Accentuates the appearance of pores and textured skin.
IMBB Rating for the product as a Blush:
Young (non-textured) – Fair to light skin tone – 4.5/5
Medium to Tan skintone – 3.5/5 (Can use as Blush Topper)
Mature (Textured) skin – 2/5
Why am I ranking the product like this? Well, because it really depends on the quality of your skin and the skin colour as to how it will perform. On someone fair and with untextured youthful skin, this blush would look absolutely stunning and would give a beautiful glow and a gentle wash of colour. On my mature skin – textured and with open pores – it was a disaster as a blush, but worked okay as a blush topper (because I used it with a lighter hand as a blush topper).
