My Experience with Marks and Spencer Nature’s Ingredients Shea Butter Shower Gel:
My standard skin type information – though I have oily to combination facial skin, I have fairly dry body skin. I hate repeating myself in each review but it is for the benefit of anyone who lands here from a Google search.
I have been using shower gels, body washes for a while but I do not really have a favourite. The only repeats for me have been from The Body Shop range – Strawberry and Moringa – just because I love the fragrance of these variants. So basically, I pick body wash fairly indiscriminately – based on their fragrance and not really their ingredients. Mentioning this up front because the product under review contains SLS, which I know can be an immediate NO for some people since it can be drying for the skin.
Packaging:
The packaging is quite simple. The product comes in a squeezable plastic tube. There was no seal. However, the store ensured that they put a plastic tape on the lid of each of the shower gels I picked. Which kind of made me think there must have been some incident/complaints regarding the cap opening and product leakage. It is a fairly large tube – with 250 ml of product and squeezable – so I guess it’s safe to say – do not travel with it.
Fragrance:
The fragrance of this one is quite like that of the Shea Butter Hand Cream – slightly sweet nutty fragrance. To me, it is pleasant. It isn’t too potent or strong, so should be okay with most people.
Texture:
The product is quite runny. It is easy to dispense from the tube. Considering the size of the tube and how runny the product is, do be careful or you will end up with way more than what you need. It spreads easily on the body and lathers well. Post washing off, it does not seem to leave a residue on the body.
Application:
The application is simple – you can use it directly or with a loofah.
Efficacy:
As I mentioned earlier, the shower gel lathers well. It leaves my skin feeling cleansed, supple and smooth without any residue or any feeling of stretchiness. The fragrance does not last too long on the body, but then, I had little expectations that it would. The fragrance can be built up by layering – using body lotion, body mist, body powder, deo, etc with the same fragrance. The brand does have different products in the same fragrance to enable you to do so.
Point to Note:
The addition of shea butter extract in the product does not make this variant drastically different from the others. I did not feel this one to be any more nourishing to the body than the other variants.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Marks and Spencer Nature’s Ingredients Shea Butter Shower Gel:
• A fragrant shower gel.
• Gentle on the skin – did not leave it feeling dry.
• Spreads easily.
• Lathers well.
• Does not leave a residue post washing off.
• Did not irritate my skin.
• Foams nicely.
• Did not dry my skin further or aggravate the dryness – in summers.
• Not tested on animals.
• Paraben-free.
Cons of Marks and Spencer Nature’s Ingredients Shea Butter Shower Gel:
• The fragrance does not linger on the skin.
• Has SLS.
IMBB Rating: 4/5
With this one, I feel that a normal consumer (who does not necessarily go through the ingredient list) may feel that since they are buying a shower gel with shea butter in it, it would be extremely nourishing for the skin. That is not the case. This variant is pretty much like any other shower gel from the range. Not a Holy Grail product…just something you use and then move on to the next product.
