Hey Ladies!!
Since I just reviewed the shade “Golden Flower Crown“, I thought I would go ahead and put down my thoughts on the “Blossom Glow” variant as well – while my head is still in the highlighting mode. I was supposed to be on a no-buy for highlighters and yet ended up with not 1, not 2, but 4 new highlighters, almost within the week! Oh God! I need help. Maybe Therapy. I’m genuinely asking for help. If you have any tips for sticking to a no-buy resolve, please please please help!!!
If you have read my review of Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder in “Precious Petals” or “Golden Flower Crown“, you would know my absolute love for the product and both the variants that I have already reviewed. So, let’s see if this shade was consistent and if I love it as much.
Product Description:
Shimmer and shine in all the right places with the same formula as our must-have MegaGlo Highlighting Powder. Back by popular demand, our #1 highlighting powder is here to stay! Its ultra-pearly finish and easy-to-blend formula makes it a fan favorite! The silky smooth, highly-pigmented powder gives an all over glow when applied to the cheek bones, brow bone, and cupid’s bow.
Price:
$4.99 in US but THB 399 (about INR 800) for 5.4 gm of product
Packaging:
The individual pan comes in a square plastic packaging with a transparent lid. There is no outer cardboard packaging, which is in line with most drugstore products. No mirror or brush either. Obviously, all these things add to the price of the product and if you strip them off, it contributes to the lower pricing. There is a sticker on the flip side with the details of the ingredients along with batch code. The lid secures tightly. I do not know if time will impact the tightness of this adversely. The pan is fairly big in size and I have a feeling that it wouldn’t be running too deep. So, I wouldn’t advice travelling too much with it – lest it shatters. The product in the pan has the same design as the one on Precious Petals and Golden Flower Crown, which is utterly gorgeous to look at. It actually mesmerizes you. I am trying my best to use the product from the side and not mess with the design too much!
My Experience with Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder Blossom Glow:
I’ve discussed the product in detail in my previous 2 reviews, but I will go ahead and fill you in, assuming this is the first review you come across. Wet and Wild launched the MegaGlo Highlighting powders a while back, as Limited Edition highlighters in 2 shades – “Precious Petals” and “Crown of my Canopy”. The product did extremely well for them and became their number one selling highlighters. Seeing the success of the MegaGlow highlighters, they decided to not only make the product permanent in these 2 shades, but also added more shades to the line, including the one I am reviewing today.
Shade: The shade “Blossom Glow” is a light, pale, whitish pink with a more evident white base and a metallic sheen. It appears a bit beige in artificial light. It is touted to be an absolute dupe of Dior Diorskin Nude Air Luminizer in 002 (reviewed by me earlier in May 2017). This is the highlighter I wanted to try from this range, as I thought it would be light without being too white and would actually give a lifting highlight to my cheeks. So, the highlighter is definitely light, but I feel it is not as flattering on me (as the Golden Flower Crown) because, its white base clashes a bit with my warmer skin tone. So, while I am still able to carry it and it does give my cheeks the necessary lift – I do not feel it is best suited for my skin tone, especially considering that I have other more flattering options within this range already in my stash. I feel this shade would work perfectly for fair or light skin tone – especially more cooler skin tone. I will probably still continue using it, but may not reach for it as often.
The powder is quite bright and reflective. So, it does create the visible-from-outer-space glow. But, it can be used with a light hand or a wispy brush to create a more sheer luminosity.
Texture: The texture is soft and smooth – not buttery smooth, but easy to work with. I found this shade a tad bit stiffer than the other 2 shades I reviewed. I don’t think it’s a variation in formula, just a bit of difference in the packing in the pan, which could be due to the difference in density of this particular pigment. The slight difference in texture has absolutely no impact on how the product performs. It still applies easily and blends effortlessly on the skin. If you use a more fluffy brush or a wispy brush like fan brush, you can apply it lightly. If you use a smaller, more tapered brush or a more dense brush, then you will get the distinct Instagram highlight. If used heavily (built up), the lighter, more whitish base and the metallic sheen will all add up and end up highlighting texture on the skin too. I feel that this is probably the least forgiving of 3 shades (Blossom Glow, Golden Flower Crown and Precious Petals). But, when used lightly and blended well, results in non-Instagram application. Also, it blends easily and is very easy to diffuse.
Pigmentation: The pigmentation is goo,d but it doesn’t look starkly white or pink on the skin. And, it diffuses easily and blends well, while still retaining the appearance of lifting the cheek. And, this is exactly what you want in a highlight.
FOTD: In the FOTD, the shade has been used on the high point of the cheekbones and above the brow bone. You get a clear pic on how distinctly metallic the highlight is and how lifting it is. The swatches give you a more clearer view of the shade and how it looks in comparison to Precious petals and Golden Flower Crown.
Longevity: The product wears exceptionally well. It stays put for 7.5-8 hours, which is a lot on my oily skin.
Pros of Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder Blossom Glow:
- Soft and smooth powder.
- Frosted metallic sheen.
- No shimmer particles or even fine micro glitter.
- Blends easily.
- Fairly long-lasting – even with my oily skin.
- The colour can be made to look subtle, but you get the feel that it is designed for a more pronounced highlight.
- Did not break me out.
- A little product goes a long way.
Cons of Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder Blossom Glow:
- The packaging worries me; not the fact that it is plastic and looks cheap. That is understood considering the price point. My worry is the pan size, which may result in it shattering, if not handled properly.
IMBB Rating: 4.5/5
I think the product is consistent with the other two shades I reviewed from this range. While I can carry it off fairly easily, I do feel that it would be more flattering on a fair to light skin tone, especially if its someone more cool toned.
Do I Recommend Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder Blossom Glow?
Yes. It is consistent in quality and a really good product. However, if you have similar skin tone as mine, I do feel that you might enjoy the Golden Flower Crown more. But hey, at this point, maybe you wouldn’t mind experimenting with something a little more different. I mean, I’d rather get a “lavender” highlight at THIS price point than from Becca, when I don’t know how it will look on me and whether if at all I will like it! You know what I mean? So, for all you know, you may end up like this one more, when you least expect it!
