From Bare-Faced to Full-On Glam: An Inside Look at Kristen Bell’s Glowing-Skin Split Cover Shot
In our Fall issues’s FaceTime-powered cover shoot, Kristen Bell confidently went from glowing skin—without a trace of makeup—to full-on glam with the help of her long-time trusted makeup artist, Simone Siegl, and hair stylist Jenny Cho.
As Bell told us, “Makeup and skin-care products are really fun, and beauty has always been something that interests me, but not from a place of ‘I have to.’ It’s more, ‘Isn’t it fun that we can paint our bodies?’ That’s the message I’ve used to explain makeup to my kids, because there is a big difference in how I look when I wear it and when I don’t—and there are more days of the year where I don’t wear it at all. I’ve accepted the shape of my face, the way it looks, the lack of eyebrows, the can’t-see-them eyelashes, all of it—it’s just the way I am. And I am totally fine with that.”
Something else she’s totally fine with: Letting Siegl work her magic—both in the skin-care and makeup selection. “I’ve been working with Simone for years. She taught me how to open my eye. I have really tiny, deep set eyes, and makeup can make or break it. It can accentuate it one way or the other. If you’re not doing it in a specific way with shading, it will look even more deep set. She taught me how to open up my eye and wear the makeup that actually makes me look awake. I’m very grateful for that.”
One of Siegl’s secrets in the time of COVID is her signature “COVID Kit,” which she preps for every client so they have their own, sanitized skin care and makeup on set. In Kristen’s case, Siegl’s selected lineup included:
Kate Somerville DermalQuench Liquid Lift ($95)
Active serum by iS Clinical ($138)
La Mer Crème de la Mer Moisturizer (Starting at $190)
IT Cosmetics CC Cream ($39.50)
Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer ($73)
Tata Harper Cream Blush Very Popular ($39)
Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk eyeshadow palette ($53)
Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes Mascara ($29)
Iris&Romeo Power Peptide Lip Balm ($26)
Charlotte Tilbury Lip Shine Walk of No Shame ($34)
As for her finishing glowing-skin touch: “I love using face mist over make up to keep skin hydrated,” Siegl says. “And I always have a few going!”
