How Hailey Bieber Helped Clear Husband Justin Bieber’s Adult Acne in Quarantine
There is a relatable meme making its way around social media joking that quarantine has been going on for so long that we’ve had enough time to get into shape then right back out. While that may ring (a little too) true for yours truly, the Biebers have other goals to hit before stay-at-home orders are lifted.
“Justin has really nice skin naturally, and over the last two years he’s really been struggling with adult acne onset breakouts,” Hailey Bieber shared during an episode of the couple’s web series, The Biebers on Watch, released in May. “I’m super into skin care, especially because we’ve had a lot of time in this quarantine… I told him that by the time we exit this quarantine he is going to have glowing, perfect skin so we are going to work on that.”
As a brand ambassador for bareMinerals and outspoken skin-care enthusiast, the supermodel has done her research when it comes to caring for her—and husband Justin’s—complexion. During a chat with Dr. Barbara Sturm on Tik Tok (watch the full conversation below) Bieber opened up about how she’s gotten Justin’s severely irritated, breakout-prone skin back on track.
“Justin went through a couple months of really, really bad adult onset acne, and I went through trying to figure out what works for him,” she said, adding that four or five months ago, the musician went on Roaccutane, describing the medication as “extremely, extremely drying.” Her solution: bringing hydration back into his skin. “Now his skin looks great, it’s glowing,” she says.
“He was using ointments and stuff on his skin because he felt like his skin was falling off, so I’ve been helping him figure out what products were going to work, that would be deeply hydrating without being oily. We found the right combo for him that worked.”
However, Hailey adds that proper hydration is a cornerstone of her skin-care routine, too, naming niacinamide and zinc as two personal favorite ingredients. “I think hydration should be an area of focus for every skin type,” she adds. “I always have to be cautious of what I’m using. I’ve learned that more hydrating stuff, more barrier-protecting products have been better for me.”
Dr. Sturm agrees, adding that even if you have oily skin, the goal should never be to dry out the skin. Instead, protecting the skin barrier—and opting for oil-free products if your skin tends to be congested—will deliver clearer, more hydrated skin over time.
