Actress Jenny Mollen Has Some Advice For Women Considering Botox Cosmetic Right Now
New York Times best-selling author, actress and mother-of-two Jenny Mollen is well-known for her many accolades, but her refreshing, no-holds-barred outlook on in-office treatments might be one of our favorite things about her.
In celebration of Allergan Aesthetics’ upcoming Look Forward campaign, focused on getting us back to the self-care routines that ground us, we sat down with the hilarious Mollen to chat all things treatments, skin care and staying sane at home.
On her committed relationship with Botox…
“I’ve had a long, wonderful relationship with Botox,” says Mollen proudly. “I’ve been a fan since I was 29 years old and living in Los Angeles. It was very common then—everyone I knew was getting Botox Cosmetic,” she says.
“Today, I get my forehead, my ’11s’ and my crow’s feet treated. I’m open to other places, but I don’t think it’s approved in other places yet. [Laughs.] But I’m a fan, so I eagerly await what advancement of science will keep me young forever.”
On getting “tweakments” in the public eye…
“There’s no stigma whatsoever with this stuff for me,” says Mollen, crediting her family’s open-book attitude towards cosmetic enhancements for her no-big-deal attitude. “My parents are both in medicine, so I grew up with my mom starting an IV on me if I had cramps,” Mollen jokes. “This is all very normal to me. You could ice skate on my father’s forehead—he’s 75.”
On her tried-and-true treatments…
Along with her mainstay injections of Botox Cosmetic, which Mollen explains she gets “once I start to notice something,” the actress notes she’s also tried Fraxel and various lasers for melasma—”but nothing crazy. I’m down for crazy, though. Maybe I need to get into more now that I’m in quarantine. Maybe that can be my new social life, just going to see my dermatologist a bunch.”
On advice for first-timers…
If you’re considering Botox Cosmetic, or any in-office treatment, right now, Mollen has some words of wisdom for you: “Just relax. It’s so not a big deal—it’s so chill.”
Aside from the very-real pep talk, Mollen offers up one other major piece of advice. “If you’re with [a dermatologist] you trust, you can go as slow as you want. The most important thing is to see someone who you believe in and you trust, and with work you’ve seen and trust.”
On getting to know her skin better…
“During quarantine, I’ve learned that I don’t really have an acne problem as much as my skin just hates makeup. I realize now that by not wearing makeup, I’m no longer getting these deep, underground zits. I don’t have to go get a cortisone shot anymore; I feel like my skin is just loving not wearing makeup. So that’s been pretty awesome—I’ve been psyched on that.”
On her worst beauty habit…
“I will pick anything I find [on my face]. I will dig and dig and dig until I am rewarded with something [laughs]. So that’s my issue. And I think that when you’re wearing makeup, or you just use a bunch of different products, it just gets dicey. So giving my skin a break has just been a godsend.”
On keeping calm during quarantine…
“I have an infrared blanket that I like to get into and just sweat at night. I also keep re-reading this book called “The Untethered Soul.” I just feel like I need to shut off from Instagram and reground myself. Reading is quelling some of the anxiety right now.”
