HOW DID SHE DO IT? REBEL WILSON WEIGHT LOSS SECRETS
How Rebel Wilson Lost Weight?
If you’re looking to lose weight, it’s always a good idea to look at others who have already achieved their weight loss goals to see how they did it. While following exactly what they did won’t guarantee success (because everyone’s body is different), you can still use their weight loss plan as a solid guide.
Moreover, you can use their results as inspiration.
Pitch Perfect actress Rebel Wilson is one such inspiration. As if she wasn’t inspiring enough – who hasn’t she made howl with laughter over the years? – Rebel managed to shift a whopping 35 pounds in just a handful of months.
Yup, that’s right. Rebel came to a point in her life where she decided that enough was enough. To continue being the warm, amazingly talented actress and positive person that many know her as, Rebel decided that she wanted better curves and a better body all-round.
So she put on a weight loss program and dedicated herself to it. It worked, and now she’s more toned and fit – and decidedly happier – than ever.
Beauty and Tips loves a good success story like this, but we also wanted to find out how she did it. We investigate and here’s what we discovered about how Rebel Wilson lost weight – and what you can learn from her.
When Did Rebel Wilson Decide To Lose Weight?
Rebel talked openly about her struggles with her weight in an interview she gave back in 2015. In the interview she talked about her love-hate relationship with food, as well as how her body had helped to land her certain roles that ruled out actresses with other body types.
‘Being unique and different was a really good thing. I walked into my agent’s office for the first time, they looked at me and said, ‘Wow, we have nobody on our books like you’. And they signed me on my second day here…I wouldn’t ever want to compete with what I call ‘the glamours’ – the really gorgeous people. I’m about the brain, the heart and what’s on the inside. I feel really lucky to be the body type I am.’
On her love-hate relationship with food, Rebel said that she ‘loves me some ice cream or dessert, and it comes at times when I’m happy or sad. So when I have an incredibly stressful day, I want to celebrate and reward myself with food. If I’ve had a sad or stressful day, food is also a comfort. You could probably describe it as emotional or stress eating. Eating is my one vice and I wouldn’t ever want to totally give it up.’
How many of us can relate?
Moreover, Rebel also revealed that she has a hormonal imbalance that makes it easier for her to gain weight than it does many other women.
Despite food being her vice, Rebel decided a year later in 2016 that she would try to lose weight in order to be fitter and healthier.
Now that we know when and why Rebel Wilson decided to lose weight and change her image, let’s take a look at how she did it.
The Small Changes Rebel Wilson Made
Whenever you read about someone losing weight, one thing you’ll notice is that they never name dramatic changes. Instead, they make simple adjustments to their lifestyle and diet that reap massive rewards.
The problem for many is that these simple changes can seem like big changes when we’re not used to them. But they’re really not. For example, here are a few things Rebel Wilson did differently:
Rebel Started to Eat More Fruit and Veg
Eating more fruit and veg really isn’t hard at all. As long as you find fruit and veg that you really enjoy, you’ll see how easy it is!
The reason people might find it tricky at first to consume more fruit and veg is because they don’t normally eat a lot of it, and they assume that – compared to burgers and pizza – fruit and veg is boring.
It really isn’t, and it’s also super colourful and varied. Plus, as Rebel Wilson herself found out, it’s also loaded with key vitamins and minerals.
Not just that, but certain fruit and veg – such as apples and avocado – are rich in dietary fibre that helps you to stay filled up for longer. This is ideal for when you’re trying to lose weight.
Rebel Stopped Counting Calories
Counting calories is boring and really takes the fun out of eating. It can make healthy eating a real pain!
Instead of counting calories, Rebel learned how to count how much dietary fibre she was consuming each day.
The problem with counting calories is that, as well as being just plain annoying, it’s also inaccurate when it comes to the nutritional value and caloric content of certain foods.
Moreover, it stops you from eating food that is otherwise good for you on the basis that there are too many calories present.
It totally sucks, so be a rebel and stop counting ’em!
Rebel Started to Eat More Healthy Fats
There are good fats and there are bad fats. Once you realise this and learn to identify the good from the bad, you can start adding more healthy fats to your diet. Just like Rebel did.
Good fats work wonders for your body as they help to reduce inflammation. This is important because inflammation is one of the prime causes of weight gain.
You’ll find healthy fats in the likes of nuts, olive oil, avocados and more.
Rebel Started to Snack Smarter
With a name like hers, you’d expect Rebel to snack like a bad girl. But when she became on a mission to lose weight, she knew she had to start snacking smarter.
See, what Rebel learned was that, just because you’re trying to lose weight, that doesn’t mean you have to give up snacking. It just means you have to snack on better, healthier foods.
For example, Rebel started to snack on the likes of carrot and cucumber that she dipped in guacamole, thus proving that a smart snack can also be a yummy snack.
Rebel also went with zucchini chips (omg zucchini chips) with hummus, and also counted chicken breast smothered with olive oil and guacamole as a healthy snack.
Celery, carrots and almond butter was another favourite of Rebel’s, as was celery and Apple cider vinegar.
And sometimes she kept it super simple by munching on a handful of nuts.
Gotta be basic sometimes!
As you see, eating more fruit and veg, snacking smarter and consuming healthier fats is all easy to do. By themselves, though, none of these were going to help Rebel lose the weight she lost.
To achieve your weight loss goals, Rebel knew that she had to do more than stick to a diet plan. She also had to work out.
Rebel Wilson’s Exercise Plan
Yup – this is probably the bit many of you dreaded. Maybe Rebel dreaded it too, but she eventually came to realise that, if she wanted to shift some serious weight, she had to work out.
Rebel started to work out regularly so that she not only lost weight but also kept it off. She also started to jog, hike and even started to play tennis.
While you don’t need to pick up a racket and turn into a tennis pro in order to lose weight, you do need to start hitting the gym at least 3 days per week for 30 mins at a time if you want to shift serious poundage in a short space of time. Just like Rebel did.
Rebel just knew that she had to stay active, and for her that meant doing things other than just going to the gym. It meant practising sports and going on long hikes.
In 2015, she indulged in a marathon hiking session and posted a jubilant photo of herself to Instagram. This was the caption:
“OMG just finished 4 fantastic days at #TheRanch 4.0 … so challenging but very rewarding! Not to mention I lost 8 pounds from marathon hiking over 4 days! Thanks to the amazing staff and masseuses (free daily massages are part of the program!)!! Feeling great!!”
It’s a case of finding what physical activities you enjoy doing – and then doing them!
Many people these days are taking up hiking because it feels amazing to be out and among nature. As well as feeling proud with yourself for having hiked and got fit, you’ll also be able to enjoy some stunning views.
And if you happen to like tennis, take up tennis!
Final Weight Loss Tips
As well as eating the right things and playing tennis, Rebel Wilson has a few more tips to help you achieve your weight loss goals, just like she managed to achieve hers:
Stick to the Plan
When times are rough and we’re feeling down, what do we do? We look to change our state in some way.
Think about it, the reason people eat emotionally is because they want to change their state. They want to go from feeling down, upset or angry to feeling better. And so they resort to something they know will make them feel a lot better – junk food.
Rebel used to be the same, and she’ll be the first to admit that she was an emotional eater. She’ll also be the first to admit that she loves to eat full-stop!
And she also enjoys desserts each day.
But what she also knows is that she’s on a mission to lose weight, and as such she has to change her ways a little. She must stick to the plan.
Rebel still indulges in desserts, but just like she snacks smartly, she also eats desserts smartly. From time to time, she’ll still eat cake, but she’ll substitute it now and then for celery and hummus. Celery and hummus is tasty and it’s healthier. She knows she can’t eat cake each day but she knows she can still enjoy dessert.
Have a Cheat Day
If you’re looking to lose serious poundage, just like Rebel was, you need to be eating healthy most of the week. If you are to indulge in cake, it needs to be a case of eating the likes of celery and hummus six days of the week, and enjoying cake just one day of the week.
This one day is your ‘cheat day’ but the whole point of a cheat day is that it must be earned. In other words, you absolutely have to stick to your plan on the other six days. Work hard all week, eat healthily, lose weight, be strict with yourself about your diet – and then enjoy a well-earned cheat day. You deserve it!
Drink Lots of Water
Do you drink at least 5 glasses of water per day? If you don’t, it’s time to start doing so.
Most of us don’t drink nearly enough water. We drink one glass a day – if that!
But while water is super healthy for you (it’s basically the elixir of life), now that you’re trying to lose weight, water is here for another reason: It can help you lose weight.
How? As Rebel Wilson discovered, sometimes when we think we’re hungry, we’re actually just thirsty. This is because our body is so used to consuming water from food that in order to get more water into its system, it sends you a signal that you’re hungry. Clever!
The downside is that you end up overeating and pile on more weight. Hmm.
The next time you feel hungry at a really odd time, try drinking a glass of water to see it if doesn’t fill you up.
Be Confident of Your Body
Rebel had already learned to love herself before she even started to lose weight, and she loves herself even more now.
As she learned, you have to have confidence about your body, otherwise this just won’t work. Be positive, learn to love yourself and feel good about the way you like.
The more you love yourself, the better you will treat yourself. This means looking after your body with a better diet and regular exercise.
All in all, Rebel Wilson managed to shed a lot of weight. If you do the same things that she did, there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t achieve your weight goals, too. Good luck!
