My Experience with Sugar Cosmetics Blend The Rules Eyeshadow Quad 12 Complicated:
‘Sugar Blend The Rules Eyeshadow Quad’ range comes in a gorgeous range 18 different shades. The palettes are customised as per your needs. They have warm-toned nudes, browns, bronzes for everyday wear and festive looks as well as dramatic evening makeup look palettes in blue, purple green and black colours which are meant for night time.
Packaging:
This eyeshadow quad comes in a quirky, cute cardboard container having signature sugar prints on the top of the cardboard cover. The container has a magnetic closure lid which is strong and closes tightly to keep the eyeshadow intact while travelling. The container feels extremely lightweight and comfortable to be carried around everywhere. This palette comes with a dual-tip sponge applicator which can be used for application of eyeshadow. If you don’t feel convenient to use this sponge applicator for application purpose, you can also use eyeshadow brushes.
I prefer using brushes over this applicator. The name of the shade is mentioned on the front right side of the cardboard container. There is an outer black cardboard cover inside which the eyeshadow palette comes. It has the sugar logo embossed on it and the ingredient details are mentioned on the back cover of this cardboard box. There is one drawback about this palette; it does not come with a mirror. Overall, I like the cute packaging and it looks pretty.
Shade and Pigmentation:
This is a super chic palette and a lot of thought and madness has been put in designing this. The shade ’12 Complicated’ is a gorgeous palette with 4 colours, out of which two are shimmer shades and two are matte shades. This palette is great to create sunset-golden Smokey eye look. Now let’s describe each of the shades individually:
Shade 1:
The left topmost is a beautiful coral peach shade that has pinkish undertones in it. It is a matte shade and pigmentation is quite good. But this shade has a little bit of fallout. It can be applied to the lid area as an eyeshadow base.
Shade 2:
To the right of the topmost shade is a stunning rich copper-gold shade which is a shimmer shade. The texture of this shade is very buttery and it is intensely pigmented. This is my most favourite shade and is best to apply to the lid area. It can be used to highlight the brow bone and also the inner corners of the eye area.
Shade 3:
In the bottom row, the first shade is a deep violet shade that has shimmers in it. It gives a metallic finish to the makeup look. It is a shimmer shade and texture of this shade is also ultra-smooth. It is much pigmented.
Shade 4:
The last shade in this palette is a dark plum shade which is completely matte. It had decent pigmentation but has little fallout. This shade is best to apply in the outer corner of the eyelids.
After swatching all the shades individually, I realised that the shimmery shades in the palette have no fallout and it will better to apply these shades with your fingers rather than using a brush. For applying matte shades, it is better to use brushes for blending purpose. They have little fallout. The pigmentation of the shimmer shades as well the matte shades is awesome and only 1-2 swipes are perfect to obtain the true colour intensity. Overall, the shade range is very versatile and I love it.
Texture and Finish:
The shades in this palette have an extremely soft, buttery and smooth texture and they glide on the eyes effortlessly. They blend beautifully on the eyes especially the neutral shades for the crease area and the metallic shades for the lid area. The shades don’t feel patchy and ensure a smooth finish post application.
While applying the shimmery shades, if you use a wet brush, the colour intensity will be more beautiful and they will give a stunning look on the eyes. I mix and match different colours to create different looks. I really loved the way this palette fared for me. In a nutshell, this is a nicely formulated palette. But there is one problem with this range, I feel all the quad that has been launched by sugar have repeated shades. So, if you end up buying 5-6 palettes, you will definitely notice some shades being repeated.
This is not economical keeping in mind the price point if these eyeshadows. I wish they launched these quad palettes in lesser shades instead of 18 shades. Before buying this palette, see the colour options carefully, otherwise, you might end up owning same shades. When I am investing in eyeshadow palettes, I would love to own different colours, so I just got 3 shades from their quad range and there is almost no shade similarity in them.
Staying Power:
I feel in love so much with the creamy formulation of these eyeshadows. Now let’s talk about how long these stay on my eyes. Well, I must say long-lasting staying power too. Without a primer, on my oily lids, they stay for about 5-6 hours. With a primer, it stays for 7-8 hours without any creasing. These shades are easy to remove as well. They come off easily with any makeup remover.
Overall:
The Quad range eyeshadow palette from sugar is a great range if you want to buy an eyeshadow palette. This offers palettes for neutral looks, for festive looks, for evening party looks. Therefore, as per your needs, you will find a palette of your choice. The shade ’12 Complicated’ will be a good option for you if are looking for creating subtle sunset-golden eye looks. I am quite happy with this palette and it performs really well. I can’t think of any big drawback other than the repeated shades issues. I would highly recommend the readers to try out these palettes.
