I have my fair share of skin concerns and one of them is dark and pigmented lips. As I have mentioned earlier, I hoard lip balms because of my dry lips and most lip balms that I have tried have not been hydrating enough for me and barely add any moisture to my lips. I have tried lip balms from most of the drugstore brands and Korean brands, but still keep hunting for balms that can perform better. In this post, I am reviewing Nature Republic Pure Shine Lip Essence SPF 15. Read on for more details on this product.

My Experience with Nature Republic Pure Shine Lip Essence SPF 15:
I have used a few of skincare products by Nature Republic and I have had mixed experiences with it. This is the first lip balm that I have tried from this brand and it failed to impress me.
The product comes in a tube packaging with a slant tip for easy application. The tube has a very basic appearance and serves its purpose well. The product has a strong artificial, fruity fragrance and this is not pleasing nor helpful for my pigmented lips. Another point of concern is that the ingredient list is not disclosed in English – neither on the packaging nor on the website. So, I am not sure what is really contains, but I am sure it contains petroleum-based products or mineral oils which are not ideal to combat skin concerns.
This lip balm when applied like a regular lip balm lasts for a while because it has extremely sticky and tacky texture. Rather, it is so sticky that it feels uncomfortable. It gives the same feeling as the kind I get from a cheaply manufactured lip gloss. It adds a shiny, gooey layer to the lips. If applied underneath a lipstick or a lip liner, it will cause the lipstick to slip and ruin the application. If applied on top of a lipstick, it will cause the color to spread and transfer.
Most lip balms disappoint me a bit because they don’t offer enough moisture to my lips, but this one is too thick and tacky to act as a lip balm or a skin care step. Also, it has an overwhelming artificial fragrance and it is very unpleasant and uncomfortable.
Pros of Nature Republic Pure Shine Lip Essence SPF 15:
- An affordable lip balm and comes in a tube packaging which keeps it sanitary (this is a not the case with the lip balms in tub packaging).
- It has a fragrance which might be pleasing for some.
Cons of Nature Republic Pure Shine Lip Essence SPF 15:
- With Korean products, availability can be an issue for some (there are third party sellers’ who sell Korean brands).
- The packaging is practical but too plain for a Korean brand.
- It can be used only as a skin care step but not underneath a lipstick because it will cause the product to slip.
- Unpleasant fruity fragrance and is uncomfortable to wear.
- Tacky, gooey texture and is again uncomfortable to wear.
- The ingredients list is not disclosed.
Would I Recommend Nature Republic Pure Shine Lip Essence SPF 15
I do not recommend it because it smells unpleasing and wear uncomfortable. I recommend it only to those who like lip gloss like texture.
