“Confidence never comes from having all the answers; it comes from being open to all the questions!”
There is always a lot of talk about confidence and style, but not very often is there an explanation about how one can be improved by working on the other…
It is easy to stick to what you’ve always done, to stay in your comfort zone or to just buy things because they are easy or comfy. I’m not saying that being comfy isn’t important, I’m just saying it;s not THE most important thing. What I am going to tell you is going to help you have fun with your style and boost your confidence at the same time – intrigued? I hope so…read on…
Don’t wait for perfection
What is perfection anyway? Believe it or not, even the most skinny, tall or beautiful woman has something that she wishes was different about herself. If you are waiting for a day when you are in better shape, your hair is longer, you have dropped a few pounds or when the sun is shining…stop!! Don’t wait for anything – having style confidence isn’t going to come from outside of you, it comes when you make the decision to embrace the YOU that you are now!
Be Unique
Who do you think knows you better than you do? No one, so why should your style be exactly the same as someone else’s? Being authentic and true to yourself is going to make you feel better about yourself and have more style confidence! You can find ideas from others, just don’t try to “do” them – you need to “do” you!
Recycle
One of my favorite things to do is recycle clothes in my closet (OK, I know I do this because it means I can buy more) but also because it’s good to get rid of things. Don’t wear clothes that don’t make you feel good – it’s just not worth it, these are the things you need to donate or recycle.
Be careful what you tell yourself
Have you ever noticed that whatever you tell yourself is what you start to believe? If I think I can’t do something I’m definitely right. If I don’t feel like I look good, then I don’t – it’s funny how our bodies pick up on our energy. A good way to find out if you are treating yourself the way you deserve to be treated is ask yourself “Would I talk to or treat my friend or child this way?” If the answer is no…then you definitely shouldn’t be talking to yourself that way!
Expand your Comfort Zone
Have you heard the expression “All growth starts at the end of your comfort zone”? Well, it applies to everything, even your style. If you’re a less adventurous person that’s fine, but you know what’s fun…trying new things! For every person on this planet there was a time when they hadn’t tried something…for every person there has always been a first time for everything. So why not let yourself try some new styles. The only way you can expand your fashion comfort zone is by adding new things piece by piece. Start small, and as your confidence grows you’ll be surprised, you’ll become braver and braver.
Don’t let insecurities win
Have you ever gone shopping with a friend or gone into a store and told your friend or yourself that you “can’t wear high waisted pants or a fitted dress”…only to find out that when you try something on, it flatters you and you feel great in it? Talking yourself out of something is common, but what if you didn’t allow yourself to feel insecurities or took away all the horrible things you’ve told yourself or you’ve heard from others…would you have the confidence to just try new things?
Did you know that a girl’s self confidence peaks at age 9. Do you even remember the you at age 9. I can remember very little of that time before I heard people telling me I was “stumpy” because i was shorter until I was about 12. Before I told myself that my legs weren’t long enough, before I was insecure about not going through puberty as fast as others around me. The good news is that I can tell you that 9 year old girl is still inside you, and you can bring her out by pushing aside all our insecurities and fears and just going for it – wouldn’t she have done that before she believed she couldn’t?!
