Hey gorgeous gals,
One more Bobbi Brown lipstick review comes your way today. This one is a bright happy shade. Let us find out if I liked this one as much as the others in the range.
Product Description:
What it is:
An all-new lipstick formula that delivers a just-kissed stain effect in one swipe.
What it does:
Loaded with soft matte pigments for high color payoff with a blotted-down stain effect and formulated with vitamins E and C and beeswax, this lipstick glides on comfortably and leaves lips hydrated and kissably-soft. The long-wear formula gives lips color without feeling heavy, for a un-lipstick look and feel that doesn’t feather or fade. Swipe once for a pigment-rich, stained effect or more for a fuller-coverage look—no mirror required.
What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates
What else you need to know:
This product is free from titanium and other ingredients that add weight and give opaque coverage.
Suggested Usage:
-Swipe on bare lips for a blotted-down look.
-Add two or three more swipes for more intense color payoff.
Price: USD $29 for 3.4gms (Not sure why Sephora site states 5ml!)
My Experience with Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color Cherry:
Packaging:
The brand kept the packaging in line with the Bobbi Brown aesthetics by doing a cuboid back casing and yet gave it a fun and efficient twist. Each of the lipsticks has a colour-coded band which extends to the lipstick tube itself. The colour of the band corresponds to the colour of the lipstick inside. So, if you have more than one of these, it’s easy to identify the shade from the packaging itself – plus it looks more fun and vibrant!
The lipstick bullet is a regular twist up with the cap clicking soundly into place. The lip is indented which allows better precision in application. It comes packaged in the usual black cardboard box.
Shade:
Described by the company as “Mid tone Red Berry”. To me, the shade Cherry is a medium, cool, pink-toned red. The shade applies much lighter than the bullet (even when built up). It is a pretty shade – bright and eye-catching without being loud. But, I do not find myself drawn to it because I don’t find it to be very unique. Let me put it this way – it’s an easily dupable shade. It will suit a majority of skin tones and look flattering on them.
Texture:
The formula is consistent with the other lipsticks that I reviewed earlier. It feels like a lip balm. The lipstick glides effortlessly but does not have too much slip where it would slide off the lip line either. It deposits pigment evenly. It is almost like a lip balm with buildable pigmentation. It is definitely hydrating.
The texture is very light-weight and moisturizing. The lips look youthful. It fills in the lines on the lips and makes them look more hydrated. What is most remarkable about the lipsticks is that the texture does not build up even when the pigment does. Meaning, normally, if a lipstick is not too pigmented, we build the colour by adding more swipes.
However, as we add more swipes, we also end up depositing more product which adds texture to the lips and if the lipstick has a cream/satin texture, the product would end up sliding around on the lips. However, that does not happen with this lipstick. I assume it is because the texture is so light-weight. Whether swiped once or more, the pigment does not sink into the fine lines either.
Pigmentation:
A single swipe gives a soft stained look to the lips. Since this is a bright shade even a single swipe has good colour pay off and looks becoming. However, the colour can be easily built up – this means about 5-6 swipes at least. However, this shade does retain a hint of translucency – despite its depth.
My lip swatches and FOTDs are with built up colours so that you can appreciate the difference between 2 shades. However, I have shared arm swatches where one side is a single swipe of the lipstick and the other side is with multiple swipes. This will enable you to understand how low the pigmentation is and how richly it can be built up.
Lasting Power:
When used as a single swipe, I get about 2-2.5 hours of wear. With multiple swipes and the colour at full intensity, this shade gives me about 5-5.5 hours of wear and leaves a very slight stain. I was actually surprised by this. I kind of expected that I would get a deeper/brighter stain with this bright a shade. It wears off evenly and does not get patchy.
Fragrance:
This one has some fragrance. But, you feel it only if you really put your nose to it.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color Cherry:
• A cool, pink-toned red which would suit a plethora of skin tones.
• Extremely lightweight texture.
• Buildable pigmentation.
• Very comfortable to wear – no feeling of dryness or clinginess.
• Hydrating formula.
• Easy to apply and get clean lines.
• It applies smoothly and evenly – no tugging or pulling.
• No feathering or bleeding – despite the balmy texture.
• Does not flake.
• Classy and yet fun packaging.
• Decent wear time – 4-4.5 hours – considering their texture.
• Free of sulfates and phthalates.
• The product is free of titanium and other ingredients that add weight and give opaque coverage.
Cons of Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color Cherry:
• Nothing at all.
IMBB Rating: 4.25/5
It’s a nice bright shade and the quality is consistent. And yet I am not drawn to this shade only because I feel it’s easily dupable. To me, it isn’t a must-have shade from the line – or in general. If you do get it, you won’t regret it but there are prettier and more unique shades in the line.
