How To Change Your Self Image And Your Life For The Better?
Self image is so important if you want to live the life of your dreams. In this article, Beauty and Tips takes a look at how to change your self image and change your life for the better.
Whenever you’re asked to describe yourself, what words do you use? People who have a poor self image tend to use words like: average, shy, unwanted, talentless, unworthy…Sounds familiar? When we have a poor image of ourselves, our vocabulary when it comes to describing ourselves tends to be very negative. The funny thing is that, when it comes to describing other people, our vocabulary suddenly perks up! All of a sudden, we have nice things to say about people. They are kind, smart, good looking, worthy and talented. They’ll go far in life! But what about us? Nobody wants to be our friend and we’re not destined for greatness.
Living the good life that you actually want to live must start with you improving your self image. A lot of people with good jobs might look like they’re enjoying life, but if their self image is poor, they won’t be enjoying anything. Despite their seemingly good life, it won’t be a life they chose. From now on, it’s time to live life on your terms and achieve your dreams. The good news? How you perceive yourself can be changed. Your self image is just a result of your thoughts. Nothing is fixed. Let’s take a look at how to change your self-image and thus change your life for the better.
Find Role Models
Before you do anything else, identify your role models. Who do you aspire to be the most like? Are there people who you look up to? It’s not okay to compare yourself to others (as we’ll find out below), but it’s advantageous to pick inspirational role models who you aspire to be like.
Stop Comparing Yourself To Others
One of the prime reasons we have such poor self image is because we spend a lot of our time unfairly comparing ourselves to others. We see girls on Instagram and frown when we realise that our own body doesn’t look anything like that. We see our friends on Facebook out having fun, and get upset when we realise that we’re stuck indoors yet again. These comparisons are dangerous, because you’re comparing your more mundane moments with peoples’ highlight reels. Stuck inside today while a friend has just posted a picture of herself at Disney Land? It’s a photo from her highlight reel that tells you nothing about her life as a whole, or how she really feels. A lot of us imagine that other people have everything while we have nothing. This is just not true. There are millions of people who would love to have what we have – health, friends, jobs, a roof over our heads; but again, these are pointless comparisons. It’s much better to focus on what you have, be grateful for all that you have, and play to your strengths. Harness the gifts you have that others don’t, and if you really want to improve yourself? Learn some new skills…
Do The Things That Make You Feel Good
It’s simple – do less of what you hate and more of what you love. Do more of the things that make you sparkle!
Give Your Wardrobe A Makeover
Maybe you’re bored of wearing the same clothes. Maybe you’re tired of being known for always dressing down. If so, it’s time to give your wardrobe a makeover. Ditch the bland, neutral clothes that make you feel sombre just looking at. Add colour to your wardrobe. Not sure of what to buy? Ask a friend for advce! The clothes really do make the woman. If you look awesome, you will feel awesome. Success can be just a dress away.
Learn A New Skill
Nothing gives us confidence than being good at something. Ever watched someone in a debate? If they’ve got lots and lots of knowledge on a particular subject, their confidence will shine. In fact, it could be their confidence alone that helps them win the debate. When we feel as though we have no talents and skills, we don’t feel worthy. We have nothing to contribute. As a result, our sense of self worth drops. Pick something you’d like to be good at – whether it’s learning an instrument, picking up a manual skill, or being a better public speaker – and then double down on it. Buy books, listen to audios, take online courses. Master the skill and improve your self image.
Be Positive
Far too many of us let our negative thoughts define our reality. Is the world really a depressing place where the poor get poorer and the rich get richer? Are we really destined for nothingness? No. But a poor self image has allowed our negative talk to create our reality. By thinking positively, you can improve your self image and your reality. Think the world is a scary place that doesn’t like you? Try seeing it as a tolerant place that’s waiting for you to shine! Simply by fixing your thoughts and the way you view the world, you can change your whole reality, your self image – and your destiny.
Be Kind
Being kind and giving and loving sounds a tad corny. But it isn’t. A lot of people who hate their self image tend not to be the most selfless of people. Rather than help others, they’d rather offer criticism and spread gossip. It isn’t helpful and it damages your self image. Try the opposite. Try being kind and generous to people each and every day. We promise that it will change the way you feel about yourself and the world for the better. You’ll start to see yourself as a loving, warm and kind person, and this can only have a positive impact on your life.
