10 Most Useful And Important Productivity Tips
The more productive you are, the more stuff you get done. As a result, the easier life becomes. In this article, Beauty and Tips takes a look at 10 of the most useful and important productivity tips.
What does being productive mean? In short, it means that we’re getting more stuff done with greater efficiency. And how awesome does it feel to be able to say at the end of the day, “I had SUCH a productive day today!”? It feels awesome. Being productive and getting stuff done makes us feel good. It makes us feel like we’re winning at life. That to-do list that was 20 feet long? We totally kicked its butt! The trouble is that it isn’t always so easy to be productive. We’ve all had those days where we just can’t seem to get anything done. Worse still, everyone else seems to be doing so well. Our friend has just posted on Facebook about her amazingly productive day, while your mom has just rang to tell you that grandma has “been productive.” WHAT? If this sounds like you, join Beauty and Tips as we take a look at 10 of the most useful and important productivity tips.
Develop A Morning Routine
How your morning plays out sets the tone for the rest of the day. If you have a bad, frustrating morning? You can be sure that your whole day will follow suit. On the other hand, if you have an amazing morning where everything goes right, you’ll be able to build on that momentum for the rest of the day. The easiest way to get the most out of your mornings is to create a morning routine that suits you. All successful people have morning routines that “prime” them so that their mindset is ready to seize the day. Take a shower, check emails, watch an educational video, make breakfast, drink lemon water, listen to music, make tea – do whatever you need to do to prepare yourself for the day.
Say No To People
Successful people are laser focused on their own goals, which is awesome for productivity. If you’re as focused on other peoples’ goals as you are on your own, it will slow you down. Even if you say “I’ll help you soon” or “After I’m finished up here,” you’re compromising your own productivity. In the back of your mind, you’ll always be aware that someone is waiting for your help. And it’s a major distraction. It is possible to stay kind and helpful, while learning to say No to people sometimes.
Switch Off All Distractions
It’s hard to be productive when you’re distracted. You know how it goes. You’re absolutely killing it at your desk, when your phone bleeps. You check it, it’s your friend. She’s got some gossip for you – and now you’ve totally lost all your momentum! Or how about when you keep checking Facebook? Major distraction. Distractions are everywhere. Some of them, we can’t eliminate (for example, the mail man knocking on your door with a package). But some of them, we can eliminate. Identify what your main distractions are, and eliminate them.
Quantify Your Results
Easy way to boost your productivity day on day? Quantify your results. For example, if you’re a writer, write down how many words you nailed today. Tomorrow, you need to find a way to improve on that number, and so on.
Eliminate Clutter
Not only does physical clutter slow us down, but so does the clutter in our brains. You need to eliminate both. For physical clutter? Spend a day clearing out your study. Organise your shelves and bin anything you don’t need. Make your study clean and tidy. For mental clutter? De-stress.
Take A Nap
A lot of people seem averse to taking a nap. But we just think it’s because they’ve never even tried one. Nappers get a bad rap from non-nappers, who call them lazy. However, by the time midnight swings around, it’s the nappers who are toasting another hugely productive day, while the non-nappers fell asleep on the sofa two hours ago, and now have drool hanging out of their mouths. Naps are awesome and they help to boost productivity. You’d assume that, because naps take up a bit of time, your productivity would go down. But because naps prevent burnout and improve alertness and mental sharpness, they have the opposite effect. Naps also restore your energy, ensuring you can keep getting stuff done long after everyone else has called it a day.
Know Your Values
Every single day, we make decisions. But how often have you found yourself agonising over a decision because you’re not sure which is the right call to make? It slows you down. Successful people, on the other hand, make instant, snap decisions. Why? Because they know what their values are. We make our decisions in accordance with our values. Unless we’re clear about our values, we’ll take too long over a decision. Worse still, we may end up making the wrong call. Either way, our productivity will slow down. Spend some time writing down what matters the most to you.
Write It Down
Where is all your time going? The best way to find out is to record everything you did in a day. Then, at the end of the week, you can analyse how you spend your time, working out what can be ditched or changed to enhance your productivity.
Get Help
Some of us are too proud to ask for help. Moreover, we assume that other people don’t wanna help us. Hey, have some faith in other people. Not only are they willing to help out, but they probably have the skills to do something that you might be lacking. You don’t need to do everything yourself. If there is something that you know someone else can do better than you, ask for their help.
List Your Priorities
Unless you know what should come first, you might find yourself working on the wrong task all day. Successful people have got their priorities straight. And in fact, if a task offers too little value? They won’t just de-prioritise it – they’ll ditch it altogether. List your priorities for each day. This way, you’ll be a lot more productive because you’ll only be focusing on what matters.
Stay happy!
