Bonjour lovelies!
What is that one product that we women always tend to carry along with us, wherever we go? Kajal? Perhaps. Perfume? Might be. Lipstick? Hell, yes! Lipstick is like that student in a school, uber cool and smart, and the one to always get the highest marks in spite of being a back-bencher. Lipstick is like that student that everyone aspires to become one day. Lipstick, according to me, is the rock star of the beauty world. Therefore, allow me to introduce you to my long loving companion, Matt(e) Hughes. He is all I’d ever wanted. And beyond that… So, let’s dig in!

My Experience with theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Sentimental Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick:
Packaging: The liquid lipstick comes encased within a long, rectangular cardboard box, which has vintage graffiti encoded all over it. You get to meet Mr. Matt(e) Hughes right here and read about his claims of being the perfect gentleman, looking for a long-term commitment with a girl possessing a great smile. The lipstick bears the same print; also, it portrays the same color as the shade, so it will not betray you in your time of need.
I was looking for a serious commitment with a lipstick, and magically, like a good Samaritan, Matt(e) decided to enter into my life. And, as predictable as it might sound, we are a perfect example of 100% compatibility.
I chose the shade Sentimental, which is a warm toned fuchsia shade, and I would profess it to be a universally flattering color, especially for Indian skin tones. On slightly duskier skin tones, this shade would lean more towards a hot magenta hue, and trust me, it looks absolutely gorgeous. This is one color that will not fail to brighten your face. Two or three swipes and you’re ready to take on the world! This particular shade is immensely pigmented, and you can easily go overboard with this one, but I would advise you to stick to 3 swipes at the most. It is well equipped with the capability of hiding pigmented lips as well. So, no worries there.
It has a very soft mousse-like texture that glides without any tugging or pulling. The doe shaped applicator delivers precise color and adapts itself to the lip contours. I did not find the need to apply a lip liner prior to this for I feel that it never bled from my lips. Once settled, it is transfer-proof and will not budge from the lips.
It settles into a perfect matte finish without any trace of patchiness within a minute of application. Now, here comes the real deal! Matt(e) wasn’t joking when he implied a long-term commitment, he literally does not leave! He hangs around with me for at least 6 hours with zero fading, after which he starts getting fidgety and starts cracking from the center of the lips. I find the need to reapply at this point. However, if you’re snacking on oily food, the shade fades evenly, leaving behind a lovely pink stain. At the end of the day, I remove it with cleansing oil and it comes off without much effort.
Since it is an ultra-matte lipstick, it tends to dry your lips after hours of wear, nothing that a good lip balm can’t take care of. I always exfoliate my lips before using this, so it never clung to any dry patches on my lips. It gives me a very fresh, summery look and I reach out for this shade a lot during the warm months.
Oh, and it has this delightful chocolate minty aroma, and you can feel the presence of cooling mint right after application which evaporates as the lipstick settles into its matte finish.
If you’re in a hurry or feel lazy to doll up, Mr. Matt(e) Hughes Sentimental will definitely rescue his damsel in distress single-handedly!
