Greetings everyone,
We have become quite smart when it comes to makeup and skin care products. We see the ingredients list carefully and then make our decisions of buying such products. So in this post, I’ll reveal some ingredients that can lead to breakouts and affect your skin. Read on, educate yourself and stay away from products with such ingredients for a great skin.
Exfoliating beads
Exfoliating beads do not cause acne on their own, but if you already have acne, then they may increase the occurrence. They can break up the cystic acne and even lead to bacterial infections. Aside from this, if the exfoliating beads are too harsh they can ultimately contribute to the occurrence of acne.
Alcohol
We all know how alcohol dries out the skin excessively and leads to excessive sebum production. This, in turn, makes skin much oilier in order to keep it hydrated and moisturised. Thus, you must definitely steer clear of alcohol. Or, at least do not go for such products unless there are moisturising ingredients like glycerin in them.
Parabens
Parabens are used to increase the shelf life of products and they inhibit the growth of moulds, bacteria and fungi. But they can cause skin inflammation and lead to acne outbreaks. These are considered to be highly toxic and even have the capability to disrupt your hormones. Although parabens are not directly linked with acne, the hormonal disruption is definitely linked to the outbreaks.
Silicon
Silicones in makeup and skincare products can definitely make your skin smoother and softer with a velvety texture. If the content of silicon is on the higher side, then it can dehydrate the skin and clog up the pores, leading to redness and outbreaks.
Coconut oil
There are many facial oils out there to treat acne, but coconut oil falls into the category of comedogenic products. While it can be used to treat acne, it does more damage than good to oily skin. It clogs up the pores and increases the number of breakouts, especially for oily skinned people. You can definitely use coconut oil on other parts of your body but avoid it on your face.
Mineral oil
Mineral oil is highly comedogenic in nature and can clog up your pores and increase the number of breakouts. It increases the risk of blackheads and whiteheads as well. In any case, mineral oil should not be used as an ingredient as the highest grade of it is also has the capability to clog up the pores. Not to mention, it is highly toxic and does not give any benefits to the skin.
Artificial fragrance
Artificial fragrance can be found in many skin care and makeup products. These are added in the products to make them feel nice and smell wonderful. But, a very few people know that artificial fragrances might also lead to breakouts. Artificial fragrances have the capability to irritate the skin and might be the reason for allergies as well. They could be the reason for inflamed pimples and could make your skin much more sensitive.
Synthetic lanolin
Lanolin is derived from the sheep’s wool and is quite potent in providing nourishment to the skin. While naturally derived lanolin is not bad for the skin, synthetically derived lanolin is not good for the skin at all. It can definitely cause the skin to break out more. So, read that ingredient list and avoid this one, too.
