Royal Hug-In! Prince Charles Shows Off His Softer Side During Sweet Day Out with Children in Bucharest
Prince Charles has a way with children.
The 68-year-old Prince of Wales was all smiles on Friday as he hugged a young boy during a walking trip through Bucharest’s Old Town on the third day of his nine-day European tour.
The royal embraced 11-year-old Valentin Blacker, the son of a local conservationist, twice during the day.
In one of his heartwarming encounters with the prince, Valentin hugged Charles with a sweet smirk while wearing a tan sweater as his father, William Blacker, looked on with a grin of his own.
In the other meeting, the little boy wore a dark T-shirt and smiled as he wrapped his arms around the royal.
After the walking tour, Charles visited the National Theatre of Romania before taking to Hospices of Hope, a U.K. charity to support terminally ill patients in Romania and their families.
His sensitive side shone through yet again at the care center, where he sat with patients, holding the hand of a young girl at a table filled with toys. Another photo of the outing showed Charles flashing a big smile alongside the little girl.
This isn’t the first time Charles has shared personal moments with children. In October, the prince visited a memorial in Aberfan, a small visit in south Wales, to honor the 116 children lost in a tragic 1966 mining accident.
There, Charles met with 10-year-old Mackenzie Robertson, who showed the royal a scrapbook featuring an image of his grandmother Susan being carried out of the debris alive.
During a 2015 visit to Wales, Charles showed a group of schoolchildren how to create a campfire.
Charles’ son, Prince Harry, has followed in his father’s footsteps when it comes to winning over children. During his Caribbean tour late last year, Harry gave an impromptu interview to a group of curious “reporters” from the Joshua Children’s Home.
Charles landed in Romania on Thursday to kick off the European tour, which includes stops in Italy, Vatican City (he’ll get to meet the pope!) and Austria.
He is also expected to visit Vizuresti Village on Friday.

Charles’ remaining time in Romania will include meetings with Prime Minister Sorin Grindenau, Crown Princess Margareta and Prince Radu of Romania along with leaders of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
His wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will join him on the next legs of the tour in Italy and Vatican City.
