Orgasm. What an intense activity for the body. Be it a male or a female, rising to the sexual pinnacle and falling straight to normalcy is like a mini earthquake inside the body. It involves the activity of a plethora of chemicals and hormones. Plus, an orgasm is quite literally a show put up by the orchestra of the genitals, the brain, and the mind. Sometimes, this symphony results in a mind-boggling orgasm and sometimes, in a slightly upsetting havoc. If you are wondering what havoc I am talking about, go ahead and read these 5 weird things that happen after you have sex.
1. Sex Headaches
Broadly speaking, according to research, there are three kinds of headaches associated with sex. One that lasts for a shorter duration with moderate pain, which is called Type 1 headache, another that begins abruptly with severe pain that lasts for 15-20 minutes, and the other, Type 3, is the one that lasts for a much longer duration (1). During sex, there is an increased pressure on the neck and head, which is said to cause this post-coital headache. Apart from that, there’s a huge spike in the blood pressure levels, which is also one of the reasons your headache is triggered. Though most post-sex headaches are benign, it is still better to rule out complications. If you are observing too many headaches even after a satisfactory session, it is something that requires medical attention.
2. Weeping After Sex – Post-Coital Dysphoria
I’ve heard of Monday blues (the one I just overcame with a huge cup of steaming coffee), but hey, can someone actually be upset after sex? Yes, it is quite possible that you feel excessively low and dysphoric after intercourse. Psychologists call it Post-Coital Dysphoria (2). There are chances you experience symptoms like anxiety, agitation, and sadness following intercourse, whose roots are primarily psychological than physiological. Also, during an orgasm, the human brain goes through a momentary chaos because there is just too much going on up there. Immediately, after an orgasm, the brain is slowly recouping from the confusion, and this takes a toll on your emotional stability, which makes you sad and depressed. You might experience this emotional vulnerability for 10 minutes to 2 hours after sex, after which your brain will regulate the chemical and hormonal release and regain its harmony.
3. Farting/Queefing
I can’t seem to understand why people call this embarrassing. You are lying naked with a person. Can anything else be more embarrassing than this? But this ain’t considered awkward, right? It is called “sex” and a majority of the population is a sucker for this. Then, why on earth should anything like a fart be awkward during or after sex? Well, it doesn’t make sense.
Coming back to what science says, these farts are called queefs when they pass from the vagina or even the anus, particularly when it has got nothing to do with digestion. The vagina traps in the air, and when there’s something else (like a finger or the penis) trying to find its place into the vagina, it expels the air out and there you go – toot! Farts are usually smelly and are a result of bacterial activity while queefs are harmless and they are because of just plain air escaping from the crevices. While queefing during sex is normal, letting a toot or two after sex is quite normal too.
4. Falling Asleep
It is a common notion that men fall asleep after an orgasm and women don’t. However, the truth is that either of them or even both of them can just fall asleep after an intense orgasm. There have been circumstances when couples have reported falling asleep while he is still inside her. One of the primary reasons for this is adrenaline. During an orgasm, there’s a high amount of adrenaline released in the body, and this causes fatigue to kick in. Quite often than not, you just give in to this fatigue and fall asleep. Also, if you’ve decided to have a quickie just before sleeping, remember that your body is already quite tired after the day’s work. And just when it wants to call it a day you decide to orgasm, then you are bound to fall asleep halfway through. Another reason most couples attribute their sleepiness is to the extreme relief they find after a good ejaculation. Makes sense, doesn’t it?
5. Hallucinations
As crazy as that sounds, this is an actual thing. Although there’s no concrete data explaining why this happens, there have been several cases where people have reported experiencing hallucinations after sex or just during the orgasm. Women experience visual sensations of different colored lights during and after sex. Plus, they go into a world of theirs and completely dissociate from the current scene. Many women freak out when they come back to normalcy and find themselves in those sexual positions as they forgot where they originally were. There were also cases where orgasm had triggered a temporary bout of amnesia, where they completely forgot everything that happened before, during, and after their intercourse. Also, it is important to note that none of them were high on any psychedelics that might have caused the hallucinations. This is why it makes it all the more clear that the strange sensations were all triggered by the sexual activity.
Some women think getting excessively wet or feeling diarrhea-ish, or the irresistible urge to squirt and pee is weird. Women, what have you got to say about hallucinations and depression? Comment below and tell me what you feel.
